Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio was born on November 11, 1974 in Los Angeles, California.

He started working in the role of Gary Beckman in a television series, and that’s when he met another actor, Tobey Maguire; their friendship has lasted ever since. In 1993, he successfully acted as Tobey in a movie, which put his name on the list of the best supporting actors. The same year, he acted as a mental handicap in “what’s eating Gilbert Grape?” with Johnny Depp, which brought him an Oscar nomination at the age of 19. In 1996, DiCaprio acted as Romeo in the modern rendition of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”. However, it was “Titanic” that turned him to a Hollywood superstar, on top of all his artistic successes and recognition.

After the great success in “Titanic”, he made a not very pleasant appearance in Woody Allen’s “Celebrity”, and 4 years after Titanic, in the year 2000, he revealed the fact that the period of Titanic had been really tough for him. Leonardo says: “During Titanic I could not relate to myself, at all. I will never achieve such a success, again, nor do I expect it to repeat, it’s not what I’m seeking, anyway”.

In 2002, DiCaprio distanced himself from flamboyant world of Hollywood and the stereotypical magazine photographs, so as to focus on the two successful performances in Spielberg’s “Catch me if you can”, and Martin Scorsese’s  “Gangs of New York, both praised by critics; one was screened shortly after another. He was nominated for the Golden Globe for his role as “Frank Abignail Jr.” in “Catch me if you can”. Then it came to the praiseworthy “The Aviator” which was based on the real life of “Howard Hughes”, the famous American director and aviator. This second work with Scorsese brought him an Oscar nomination for the best leading actor.

Still, DiCaprio went on with Scorsese, and many called him Scorsese’s new DeNiro, although he has not received an Oscar, yet.

In 2005, DiCaprio started his third work with Scorsese’s in “The Departed”, with other stars such as Jack Nicholson, Alec Baldwin and Matt Daemon, yet, there were still two more works with Scorsese to come for him. In the same year, he was nominated for an Oscar for the third time for “Blood Diamond”.

He co-starred Kate Winslet, once again, in “Revolutionary Road”. In 2010, he acted in “Shutter Island” and “Inception”; both recorded as best sellers of the year. His income in 2010 was estimated at 60 million dollars. In 2011, Leonardo rested for a while, and in 2012, he acted in Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained”. In 2013, he appeared in two movies: “The Great Gatsby” by Buzz Luhrmann, and “The wolf of Wall Street” by Martin Scorsese, based on the life story of Jordan Belfort, the famous Stockbroker. It is noteworthy that DiCaprio was the producer in this movie, too. This was the fifth cooperation of DiCaprio and Scorsese. Leonardo received his forth Oscar nomination for “The Wolf of Wall Street”.
